Learn the difference between a boat and a yacht

If you decide to buy your own yacht, it is essential not to be fooled and to know the particularities of yachts and boats. Size, shape, what gives a yacht its name? Here are some tips to help you understand and differentiate between yachts and boats.

Size

The first clue is the size. You should know that boats measure less than 197 feet from tip to stern. They are used for pleasure, commercial or residential purposes. A yacht is generally longer than 30 feet, over 100 feet it is a megayacht and over 150 feet, a superyacht. So, there are small yachts, but what really counts is the luxury you will find on board.

The equipment

If you decide to buy your yacht, it is essential that you master the vocabulary of yachting to avoid being fooled. Yachts have more sailing equipment, which will affect another aspect of it, the price.

The price

Distinguishing between a boat and a yacht is especially important when selling. Why? Because it will be used to store the ownership papers and to determine the price of the insurance coverage. By definition, since yachts are more luxurious, they will tend to be more expensive, and will be used for longer trips, with all-inclusive services and obviously this will play on the insurance which will be more complete and more expensive.
