Docksense by Raymarine, moor without even looking around

When navigation is difficult, accidents happen easily and result in heavy repair costs, especially when it comes to luxury yachts. To remedy these problems, British electronics manufacturer Raymarine is developing Docksense, a highly advanced docking system. We often cover the yachting world here, so we thought we might give you a glimpse of this brand-new technology.

Automated and simplified maneuvers

Docksense uses a processor to handle all controls, always ready to intervene in case of emergency.

The prototype artificial intelligence is connected to cameras positioned by yacht owners. They allow to read the environment and to evaluate distances with objects nearby. With the assistance of on-board systems, Docksense optimizes the steering precision by analyzing the GPS position of the elements which would otherwise make docking difficult.

The algorithm gives direct inputs on the yacht’s joystick propulsion system. Thus, the direction and speed instructions are directly transmitted on the navigation radar. Obstacles can be avoided, and mooring can be done with much greater confidence.

In February 2019, at the Miami Boat Show, Prestige Yachts will be the first company to showcase the Docksense technology aboard the Prestige 460, a luxury yacht equipped with a joystick propulsion.

We hope to see you there to witness this technological leap!

If you can’t make it, we got you covered! Watch Docksense in action in the video below:

Favorite French yachting destinations for winter

Winter is coming and this is a great occasion to hit the road, escape the everyday grind and celebrate the holidays in exceptional places. With Christmas approaching, Neo Yachting takes the opportunity to review the best yachting destinations of the winter season.

From sea to mountains

For a change of scenery, there is nothing like a stay between sea and mountains, in the French Alps or the Pyrenees. With the lenient weather of the Mediterranean region, it is much more exciting to charter a yacht and then go up to the mountain once the destination of your choice reached. To wake up in the morning on a luxury yacht and go skiing in the afternoon… this is an inspiring plan for your holidays !

If you are still wondering about what else you would do during your trip on board, here are some ideas to whet your adventurous spirit : hiking in the snow, visiting the charming small mountain villages, walking around the Christmas markets and admiring festive lightening along with wonderful Christmas window displays. If it is not enough for you, after all, you can return to your boat and explore another city the very next day!

The French Riviera

The French Riviera is seducing tourists seeking the pleasant and convivial destination for a few-day trip. Navigation by the sea and visit of the most beautiful corners of Nice and Antibes… maybe, there is no snow, but the sun and the vitamin D are well present !
