Docksense by Raymarine, moor without even looking around

When navigation is difficult, accidents happen easily and result in heavy repair costs, especially when it comes to luxury yachts. To remedy these problems, British electronics manufacturer Raymarine is developing Docksense, a highly advanced docking system. We often cover the yachting world here, so we thought we might give you a glimpse of this brand-new technology.

Automated and simplified maneuvers

Docksense uses a processor to handle all controls, always ready to intervene in case of emergency.

The prototype artificial intelligence is connected to cameras positioned by yacht owners. They allow to read the environment and to evaluate distances with objects nearby. With the assistance of on-board systems, Docksense optimizes the steering precision by analyzing the GPS position of the elements which would otherwise make docking difficult.

The algorithm gives direct inputs on the yacht’s joystick propulsion system. Thus, the direction and speed instructions are directly transmitted on the navigation radar. Obstacles can be avoided, and mooring can be done with much greater confidence.

In February 2019, at the Miami Boat Show, Prestige Yachts will be the first company to showcase the Docksense technology aboard the Prestige 460, a luxury yacht equipped with a joystick propulsion.

We hope to see you there to witness this technological leap!
